How Insurance Reconstruction Works

Will insurance pay
to rebuild?

A clear guide to how insurance reconstruction works in Arizona: mitigation vs. rebuild, what's usually covered, and what to do before you sign anything.

If your home was just damaged, you are probably asking one question: will insurance actually pay to put it back? Here is how it works, without the jargon.

Mitigation vs. reconstruction — who does what

After a loss there are two phases. Mitigation is the first response, extracting water, drying the structure, and tearing out what cannot be saved so the damage stops spreading. Reconstruction is the rebuild that puts your home back together: drywall, flooring, cabinets, paint, and the structure behind them.

These are often handled by different companies, which is where homeowners get stuck — the mitigation crew leaves, and no one owns the rebuild or the claim. Revco's lane is the reconstruction, and we work the claim with your insurer so nothing falls through the gap.

Does homeowners insurance cover reconstruction?

For a sudden, accidental, covered loss — a burst pipe, a fire, storm damage — your policy generally pays to repair or rebuild the damaged areas, minus your deductible. Gradual problems (long-term leaks, deferred maintenance, wear and tear) usually are not covered. The deciding factor is rarely the damage itself — it is how the loss is documented and how the scope is written.

  • Document the loss thoroughly, to the insurer's standard, before cleanup.
  • Write a complete, documented scope that captures everything that has to be rebuilt.
  • Justify the full scope so the claim is approved in full.

What to do in the first 24 hours

Make sure everyone is safe and stop the source if you safely can. Then photograph and video everything before any cleanup. Start a claim with your insurer, keep receipts for anything you spend, and call a licensed reconstruction contractor before you sign a work authorization with whoever showed up first.

You choose your contractor, not your insurance company

Your insurer may recommend a preferred contractor, but you are never required to use one. Preferred vendors are chosen by and answer to the insurance company, so their incentive is to keep the insurer's costs down. Revco works for you. We advocate for restoring your home properly and completely, and we document and defend the scope it takes to do that.

How Revco works with your insurance

We inspect and capture 3D scans and photos, build and defend a detailed scope, and communicate directly with your adjuster, so you are not negotiating a claim and managing a construction site at the same time. You choose your own contractor in Arizona; you do not have to use your insurer's preferred vendor.

Questions

Answers before you call

For a covered, sudden loss — like a burst pipe, a fire, or storm damage — your policy generally pays to repair or rebuild the damaged areas, minus your deductible. What matters most is how the loss is documented and how the scope is written, which is exactly where a reconstruction contractor helps.

Mitigation is the first work that stops the damage: water extraction, drying, and tear-out. Reconstruction is the rebuild that follows. They are often done by different companies; Revco focuses on the reconstruction and works your claim with the insurer.

No. In Arizona you have the right to choose your own licensed contractor. We work with your insurance company either way.

Make sure everyone is safe, stop the source if you can do so safely, take lots of photos and video, and call a reconstruction contractor before you sign anything. Document everything before cleanup begins.

Insurance companies typically issue payment directly to you, the homeowner. You then pay us for the completed work, including your deductible. We bill the approved scope and keep you informed at every step.
